I have a very old trailer and was told it has 5k pound axles because it has 6 lug rims. Upon doing a little research I determined they could be either 5200 or 6k axles. They have 5 leaf springs and 12" drums. The axle itself if square and 2" diameter

I've generally used that rule of thumb, although we did have a company screw us on a custom build. Where we ordered 7.5k axles, and they stuck 5500lb ones with 8 lug hubs.

It is typically stamped on the axle tube somewhere
