My roommate went on a bow hunt, hit a doe with the truck on the way to the stand. We found it. How much mess am I expected to see when we start cleaning it?

Depends on how fast he was going when he hit it and where. Bumper to the head, not much, grill to the rear legs where he had to run over the deer 5 more times to kill it, nothing but mush...

Dad hit one year's ago with his old truck with the pipe bumper on it. Wasn't much left of it at highway speeds.

Depends on speed and point of contact. Ive cleaned a few from the side the road that weren't bad are were at least half salvageable.

He said he thinks it was about 35-40, front grill to body, found the deer in a nearby ditch.

I hit one with a Pontiac grand prix Hit her in the hind leg. There wasnt much damage. I had slowed down a good bit. Messed the car up more than the deer.

I hit one doing 80 in a duramax, hit him dead center. Wasn't to much left to him, just 14,000 in damage to the truck

I did $11,000 worth of damage to my F-150. The buck had at least eight points but they were reduced to dust when he hit the grill at 80 mph!

Just cut out the really bloody parts where he hit it. If he hit all body then whatever quarter of the deer he hit would probably be all useless.

I hit one once coming out of my club (gravel road). Tow hook caught it and just enough to cripple it. I had to finish it off with a knife.

I have the bumper on my truck set to just about the exact height of a deer's head

Truck damage ended up being minimal. New grill, New bumper, New driver side fog light.

The deer meat was fine, some broken up ribs and a little mess on the inside, but most of the meat was usable.
