Remington gets a lot of hate on this board, but the 700 is never a bad option. Every one I've ever shot has been good.

Ruger American is hard to beat in the budget range it's in.

What model is that? That's a good looking gun.

Also, what's the difference in the Rem 700 ADL and BDL

Go look at the American. I couldn't stand the action and the stock is as cheap as they came. But it does shoot straight.

Difference in the models are stocks, and the magazine plates or if it comes with an external magazine. The ADL doesn't come with a magazine plate. I believe you have to cycle all the bullets out with the bolt. Other than that all Remington 700's are the same. Some are fluted some are stainless but it's all the same rifle. You can't beat the Remington 700 action in that price range.

Chris Kyle used a Remington 700 action in his rifles if that means anything

I appreciate all the help! I'm going to go try to put my hands on the suggested rifles and make up my mind this weekend.

Correct. My question, albeit not so much to you, but to the Remington 700 haters, is WHY? I'm not looking for an argument; I'm just curious why the 700 is so unpopular. And please just don't say something like, "They're all junk lately." Myself, and everyone I know who has one, have always been pleased w/ the 700. What's different now?

I'm with you there. I don't understand it. My 700 shoots about an inch at 200 yards. Last time I shot it I had a 3 shot group that all touched each other at 200 yards. You can't beat the action until you start getting into high dollar rifles imho.

I want to get a Boyd for the 308 I picked up. I wasn't looking st the Americans but for 199 I couldn't pass it up and I knew about the boyds now fitting. Good looking rifle.

I thinking it's got more to do with the politics than anything else. Plus the claims of the safety issues, which I can neither confirm nor deny.

I've never had a problem with a 700, and would recommend them in the adl and sps price range. But, if you are spending 800-1000 like the bdl and cdl, there are better options.

My opinion.

I love my 700 .270 and my first gun was a youth model 700 7mm-08 that I would still shoot if it wasn't so short. I think dollar for dollar there isn't a more accurate and well made gun out there. Only reason I was looking for something different is the bdl's are higher priced and I just don't know if I like the look and feel of the other 700 models. Plus my dad wouldn't like having to bolt out every round after each hunt, he'd prefer a clip.

Academy had the woodteach 700's on clearance for $440. It a SPS model. It does not have an external magazine but it does have the magazine plate or whatever its called. I picked up mine a couple of months ago and my BIL got one 2 weeks ago. Worth checking out if you would like to go with the 700. I like the stock, some do not though.

Here's a link to a woodtech
