I think your math is off there.

May explain Lake P 10 footers though.

I use a nesco. It works just fine and isn't very expensive.

And that is why you don't make jerky in the microwave.

Box fans and filters work best

i use a Redhead 6 tray dehydrator from BPS. I don't weigh my meats once they're done but i can guarantee you it's less than half the weight it began as.

Cheap ones take longer than the expensive ones. I have the cheapest Nesco made... use it for jerky and peppers. I let it run overnight

Another vote for Nesco here. I had some other brand before this one, and it sucked. Would take like 12 hours to do jerky because it had no fan to circulate the warm air, and you had to constantly alternate the order of the trays. That was probably ten years ago. The Nesco does it in about 5 hours and is put it on and forget it.

If anyone finds one that is easy to clean though, I'd be open ears. Literally the worst kitchen appliance I have to clean.

Using a dehydrator for jerky is like using a gas grill. It does an ok job but there are better ways to do it, like using a smoker.

Another vote for the Presto. I've had mine for couple years now. Does a great job. WE dry a lot of fruit and veggies also.
