Please be careful out there. I cannot imagine the pain this man is going through over this tragic, yet preventable, incident.

That is an unbelievably awful story.

But then again, I'd like to take my teenage daughter and her boyfriend out hunting after the discussion we had last evening.

Jesus Christ. Again?!? This is like the fourth time this year a dad has killed his son that I've heard of. I really don't understand how anyone can pull on something they can't see, let alone if their sons are hunting elsewhere on the property.

Some people just have no business with a damn gun, or with children for that matter.

Agreed. HOWEVER, when I was 14 Daddy put a round in a tree about 4 feet from me. He missed on a buck that was on a ridge line above him. I was at least 350 yards through trees away and that round hit WAAAAY too close to me. Talk about Kennedy's magic bullet. This thing went through the gum slough like it had a guide.

dad's dumb. did he not have a conscious thought that he's pulling a trigger pointing his rifle directly at his son?

No, the old man wasn't dumb. Probably the 14 year old who left the stand and was walking back at what "he" thought was a safe distance was the dumb arse.

With texting and cell phones now, it's much safer because we can communicate with each other and know when someone is getting down and heading back to the camp.

I make my kid wear hunters orange from head to toe, and he has to waive his flashlight around when he's walking back to the truck after dark. I couldn't live with myself if I harmed the kid in any way. Damn that's tragic!
