CW9 Range Report

I put 165 rounds through my new CW9 yesterday in about an hour and a half. 150 115 gr FMJ (mostly WWB, some Blazer) and 15 115 gr Winchester SXZ HP. The gun was nearly flawless. The only issue was on the 2nd round of the 2nd mag. the slide locked open. Dropped the mag, cleared the mischambered round, and it ran just fine after that. My groupings weren’t too good but they definitely got better. My other gun is a Ruger SR9c and the triggers are just so different, it’s going to take some range time to get better groups with the CW9. At the end of each of my range trips, I like to grade myself by using a NRA 25-yd slow-fire pistol target. I shoot at roughly 7 yards. With my SR9c I usually score in the mid to high 80s out of 100. With the CW9 I scored 56/70 which equates to a 3”x4” spread.
Before purchasing this gun, I was considering a Ruger LC9….that is until I shot one; hated the trigger on the LC9. The CW9’s trigger is SMOOOOTH. Never once did I feel like the trigger was never-ending like with the LC9. And with the tubing I added around the grip, there was no soreness in my hand at all. The recoil was very similar to the SR9c. I’m beyond happy with this gun. Now that I’m confident in the gun’s feel, I just need to try to get over the nerve of carrying a loaded gun with no safeties. My class isn’t until November, but I figure I might as well get the nerves out the way now and “practice” by carrying around the house.

Keep practicing ........ That gun should easily put everything in a 1" group at 7 yards.
The long DA trigger takes some getting used to, but it's really smooth. It's too bad there's no reset position on that trigger, but that won't be an issue if you stick with Kahrs and don't swap back and forth with other platforms.

I love mine. The trigger takes a little getting used to, but I have no problems with accuracy with it. Been very happy.

That is definitely one thing I love about Kahrs - a great DA trigger.

I would be cautious about carrying it with rubber around the grip. It could snag on clothing and such in a tense situation. I would look into Talon Grips. They are low-profile and come in both rubber and sandy texture.

Good to hear. I wouldn't be discouraged by the early failure. My Kahr failed to lock open on the first magazine. But I attributed this to the stiff recoil spring and the tightness of the gun.

As long as you have a holster covering the trigger, you literally have nothing to worry about.
My piece of advice is this: leave it stored with the striker cocked. You can choose whether or not to keep a round chambered. Check that gun everyday and see if the trigger pulls itself.
This is exactly how it will be carrying it. The trigger will be completely covered. The only way for it to fire is for the trigger to pull. And since it has a long trigger pull, that's even more mental security.

The CW9 is the slightly bigger brother to the CM9?
And the PM9 and CM9 are the same other than some cosmetic things?

Yea. It has a slightly longer grip and barrel.

Yes. The PM9 and CM9 are dimensionally identical. The only real differences externally are the sights and de-horned slide on the PM.

Traditional rifling in the CM vs polygonal rifling in the PM.
Also, someone mentioned earlier that you should be able to get 1" groups. Although that may be true, personally I would worry more about training to draw from concealment, fire, and hit something the size of a basketball at 7 yards.

The best bullseye shooter on the planet couldn't shot 1" groups with the CW9.

dawg was the one that said that kahr would "easily" shoot a 1" group. I'm hoping that was hyperbole.

Although I don't have a CW9, I do have a CW45. I hope to own a CW9 some day. You'll find the CW9 a pleasure to cc. It will be plenty accurate for you. It should also be very reliable. I'd buy a Kahr extended mag, as well. My CW45 disappears when carried IWB w/ my Side Guard Holsters "Tuck Clip."

I cut a piece of bicycle tube to put over the grip. It covered all the aggressive texturing and still gives a solid feel in my hand.

7 yards = length of my truck. Even Glocks will shoot 1" at this distance.
