So we've all been camping in the woods, or sitting alone in a tree in the dark, or walking down a trail far, far away from anyone else, and we've all had that feeling before that something just ain't right. Right?

What is your creepiest experience in the outdoors?

I'll start with a few of mine.

- I stumbled upon a bare hill with 3 burnt crosses in the middle of Kisatchie National Forest. No trails, no roads, nothing around it.

- While I was sitting in my deer stand one cold morning, a coon was playing in the creek below me. It makes it's way behind me, and then I hear the most blood curling scream I have ever heard in my life followed by a loud crunch. I was scared to turn around. When I finally did muster up the courage, I saw a huge bobcat carrying the coon off. That was actually kinda cool except the coon screaming almost made me piss myself.

- Discovered an old barn in the middle of some woods, decided to walk inside, and in the middle of the barn, was a rocking chair, and in the rocking chair was an old, torn doll. It was just sitting there. Staring at me. Soulless. Creeped me the frick out.

While fishing in a small bayou as a youth, my friend and I saw a small wave coming toward us in calm water. Picture the Hawaii 5-0 wave, but 10" high and about 8" wide. It meandered along in the middle for about 30', then disappeared. We were sitting on a small home-made bridge, and it was coming right at us. I've seen whirlwinds do strange things on the surface, but this was nothing like that.

Panther scream, followed not so closely by a bear pushing down dead pines and tearing through them for grubs.

While in Montana, just outside of Glacier National Park, me and my Dad were hiking to a remote lake to go fishing. While on the trail, we passed a "trail" coming down the mountain that was roughly 3 feet wide. My Dad looks at me and says "I know of only one thing that could make a trail that big."

That was the wrong fricking thing to say to a 13 year old that had read bear attack stories for the entire trip.

I don't think I got farther than 2 feet from my Dad the rest of the hike.

One night at our camp in Fort Adams, three cop cars pulled up and hit their sirens. Our camp was down a long dirt road. All the people in the club went outside to see what was going on. They came to alert us that three prisoners had escaped from Angola, were considered armed and dangerous, and instructed us to "shoot on sight."

As a 12 year old it scared me pretty good.

Also, being woke up on a stand by a bobcat a tree over from me.

Not so much creepy as down right terrifying:

My brother, dad and some of my dad's friends wen to Alaska in 2004 for an 8 day float trip.

My Brother and I were rowed across the river one evening after we'd made camp to fish a cut-out pool that was chock full of sockeye salmon.

WE start to catch fish and the guide rowed back across to ferry other guys over.

A lanky young grizzly trots onto the sandbar about 200 yards upstream of where my brother and I were fishing.

Damn thing takes off at a dead sprint right towards us, then about 100 yards away dives into the pool, scoops up a salmon and starts to go to town. I don't think he even knew we were there. I had to change my long johns.

Fall of 1997, a friend and I were doing some scouting on family land in preparation of deer season. I had my trusty single shot 22 and he had a 12 gauge pump. We were walking along an old logging road that was about mid way up a nice size hill. We hear something running through the woods towards us. I mean really making some noise. So, we leaned up against the bank in the road, behind a couple of trees. I peak my head around the tree, and its a damn black bear. I nearly shite myself. Ran right by us, no more than 10 yards away.

While sleeping on the floor of a friends camp near Williana, I felt the whiskers of a rat sniffing my face. I just laid there, frozen, waiting for it to start chewing my face off. Luckily my beautiful face was not harmed.

Didn't happen to me, but I've been wanting to tell this story since the board started...

I was on a bear hunt in Canada with my dad and a bunch of his buddies when I was 12. One of the guys got a pretty good sized black bear. We cleaned it, etc. One of the guys that was supposed to fly with us ended up coming in a couple of days later because of some "honey-do" list.

They decided to screw with him. They hung the bearskin over the window in the bathroom right next to the shitter. He got in at like 10 PM, said hi, and said he had to shite. He went into the bathroom, started to sit down and flipped on the light.

He ran out screaming with his pants around his ankles... we later found shite splatter on the floor of the bathroom. I will never forget that as long as I live.

turkey hunting on the edge of a field at my old camp...across the field were woods. it was still dark. i hear a coyote...then another one...then what sounded like 50 of them. they were going crazy...didn't think much of it until they were getting louder b/c they were getting closer. Here i am on the ground with a turkey decoy in front of me & can't see shite...thankfully they hauled arse and didn't come any closer.

a friend of mine was bowing hunting on public land...sitting in his climber and a bear started to climb up the tree. when the bear got to the bottom of the climber he just yelled at it and scared it off...he proceeded to jump out the tree and haul arse

While turkey hunting in west Texas, I was sitting with my back to a tree, softly calling when I hear something sneaking up behind me. I slowly turn around, thinking it might be a silent gobbler, but no, it was a coyote in full sneak mode about 10 feet from me. When we made eye contact and it realized I wasn't some lonely, delicious hen, he turned and ran. I'm glad I turned around when I did or that bastard would have probably pounced me.
