My mom has this wooden Jesus figure that she would like to be free-standing. Problem is, the base of it has been sitting in water and has begun to rot. I was thinking of sawing off a good 3-4" and using a spade bit to core out the center and put a post for a base, but am open to ideas.

Anyone have any ideas with this? Thanks in advance

The base was tbe problem. Just put it on top of water, He can stand on it.

you could make a base by making a square wooden frame 2" high and 2" wider than the base of the sculpture. Then place the sculpture in it and fill the base with fiberglass resin and let it dry. If it is going to be outside you can "treat" the sculpture the same way by simply painting the resin on the wood and letting it dry.

If outside you could also just put a spike in from the bottom and drive it down into the ground.

Appreciate the input brother. That was kind of what I was thinking although a bit different b/c I'd like a lathed base.

It's not heavy at all for being solid wood so that would probably work. Wonder if Amazon sells bases like that b/c I don't have a lathe.
