Planning on taking my son crabbing Thursday. Does anyone know if Manchac or Lake Ponchatrain by Laplace doing good yet? Went last month and only caught 3.

I heard that Manchac was great right now. Can't remember where or who told me that. 90% chance it came from here.

Can't speak for LA, but crabs are thick in MS this year. It might be a good year everywhere or maybe MS is benefiting from a bad year in LA?

Crabs are thick most places. Getting full crabs over kites is more of the challenge

I want to take my kids crabbing very badly, but don't know where to go. I live in Lafayette. Are the places down past pecan island typically crowded?

the tresure chest casino on lake ponchatrain. launch right there and ride the powerlines about a mile until you see the big canal where the rocks end. its calm water there, only thing to worry about is Pontchartrain kicking up on way back to launch. ive done it in 16 ft flat boat several times

Rockefeller refuge, look up price lake road. If you have a boat you can launch at Joseph's harbor and hit a few damns that are not accessible by car.

Out of Cypremort point you can crab at the state park by vehicle. Marsh Island has a few damns to crab at if you have a boat.

I don't have a boat that is why I am curious about the refuge. I am very familiar with crabbing out of the point in marsh island.

Kittens.

just kidding. Either turkey necks, beef melt or chicken quarters. Hell I have taken old rib eyes out of the freezer and threw them in the nets.

Mind sharing what works for you down there? Go boat riding Down that way a good bit, but have never been crabbing. In fact, I can't really remember even seeing anyone crabbing.
