Had a good report from some family that went over the weekend. Caught them in the surf.

I went Saturday AM. Tried the pier but the current was running way to hard. Went to Elmers and tried the surf and the waves were rolling my nets. Went to my honey hole, where I should have started, and caught 87 in about 2 hrs. Tide started going out and they turned off like a light.

Damn, we caught 87 on Elmers but not on the beach, tide switched about 11 and they shut down.

Supposed to have an easy incoming tide until noonish. Thinking I should do pretty good on the surf. Will try a palon and drop nets. Only problem is the pom pom crabs usually show up by mid August. Hoping i beat them there.
I'll post back to let ya'll know how i do.

We only had 3 pomppons, we used drop nets. Went to the parking lot at the end and fished the side opposite of the beach, set up on the hard sand about thigh deep, you'll have to go out about 50 yards. I tied a pool noodle around a champagne basket so we wouldnt have to keep coming back to land to dump our crabs.

Went down to GI yesterday morning. Caught on just about every bait every run. Either small or pom pom. After about 90min. I threw them all back and bought some when I got home.
Should be good come late Sept. after two more molts.

The times I've crabbed at GI, we just waded out into the surf and did pretty well. Some on strings and some with traps.
