Every time I grill backstrap and give some to my daughter, her eyes light up. She loves it....and she is a picky eater. If I had to request a last meal, this is part of it.

I've been away from it for a few years but now my son is old enough to go. Ready to start shooting. Got my boy a Bear Cruzer and he's loving it.

Post some of your favorite bowhunting stories

ok

Arrow #1 hits vine and deflects into deer's hips. Deer begins crawling on front legs through palmetto.

I climb down and sneak through palmetto after deer that moves every time I get close.

I manage two more poor shots. Deer looks like pin cushion. Back straps likely ruined at this point.

Deer swims across 5' deep 15 yard wide slough. Gets hung up in cypress knees under huge tree.

I retrieve arrow #1(I'm out) and take a shot across slough. Deer makes horrible noise. He now looks like a bull near the end of a Spanish bull fight.

I find a way around slough to deer. I fashion a spear out of a gerber knife and sapling. Poking a hole in chest does not work well. Deer is staring at me.

I take knife off and decide to slit deer's throat. Grab antler. Deer jerks free with such speed and force that I expect to see my fingers flying through the air like the picture on the trolling motor bracket.

Deer has had enough of close combat and begins swimming down middle of slough toward huge brake. I fear he is gone forever.

Deer gets caught in buttonwood and either drowns or water fills holes I've made in body.

I get down to tighty whiteys and wade out to deer. Slough is covered in duck weed and it's January. It is now two hours after shot #1.

After cutting off all 4 legs and field dressing, I drag deer over 1 mile to parking lot. My legs are cramping so bad I must walk backwards for last 1/4 mile.

Get to friend's camp. I am covered in mud, blood and duckweed. He had no hot water. We boil water in crawfish cooker for bath.

stories

I used to hunt some land in WBR. It was the morning after a big LSU win and we had a pretty long day before. We had stopped toned it down pretty early because we had planned to go hunt but had been drinking literally all day. So by the time we get to the woods the hangovers are setting in nice.

There are three of us at the truck getting all our crap together smelling like the inside of a bottle off Jack (the deer like that). So my friend is really bad off. Bad like he had to turn the music off on the way to the woods because his head was splitting. So he gets his stuff together and he's bitching the whole time how he wants to be in bed. His bow was in one of those primos bow slings. We go our separate ways towards our spots. About 45 minutes later he texted me to ask if I was setup. He never does that so I'm like yeah what's up. Then he texts me a photo of his bow on his lap with an empty quiver with some very choice words.

The dude lost every single one of his arrows walking through the woods in the dark with his bow slung over his back, hungover like something serious. We only had one car, so then he had to sit up in the tree nursing his splitting head for four hours with no arrows, and he only found one on the way out
