I'm looking to get me and the wifey a CCL. Where do you guys recommend taking the class, what instructor should I used in the Baton Rouge area?
Also, can I use a revolver to carry if I don't use one in the class?

IIRC, if you use a semi auto in the class you can carry revolver and semi auto but it doesn't work the other way around.

I saw his website. I was thinking about taking the class with him. I was checking to see if there were any hidden OB gems I was missing.

Precision Firearms - $125 & one stop for class and shooting qualification. 1/2 day of class time, then walk right over to the range to shoot.

Off topic but what is her experience level? I ask because I know the "what should her first gun be" question will eventually pop out if she's new. And the answer isn't what you think it is.

This is what I thought as well. I couldn't find anything concrete and everyone says something different.

My wife is fairly experienced with shooting and handles pistols very well. The revolver would be for me. She has an LCP which I know is small but she loves it. I'm hoping to get her a Shield or something more full size in the next few months.

My dad and I took it from a guy named Ernie Gammon with Personal Defense Training LLC. He did an incredible job. He assumes if you are taking the class you are familiar with firearms and doesn't waste any time on the basics of shooting or how to use a firearm. He concentrates 100% on concealed carry. His course is only $85 which includes range fees at precision for the shooting portion. You could call him and ask him the revolver question when you sign up. He is very knowledgeable and very helpful. I would STRONGLY recommend going to see Ernie for your class! Check out his website.

Another recommendation for Ernie Gammon. Several OBers have taken his class and liked it. Email him on his website and he will get back to you.

Nope -- you can use either in class, and you can carry either after you get your permit. There's no limitation based on what you bring to class.
There is/was a question on the application form asking if your training covered revolver, semi-autos or both. LSP has told me this is strictly a statistical data gathering question that was added to the form to satisfy the curiosity of a legislator.
I tell my students to check "both" because we do discuss both (pros and cons) in my class. But no matter what box they check off, they can carry either style of handgun.
p.s. My January 10th class is full (has been for several weeks).
If there's enough interest I'll be glad to post the date of my February class (once I'm able to pick a date).

Happy New Year Dawg! Please do post the date for the Feb class. We gave your contact information to a young lady that works with us for your class. She should be in touch soon.

That's what I thought, where do people get this stupidity from. They hear it from there uncles friends sister that dates a cop and assume it's iron clad.
