We are heading down to NO next weekend, we are staying close to Bourbon street so we will most likely walk and I would like to carry. If I remember right legally you can't carry in a bar if it doesn't serve food, is this correct? Normally I don't but walking in that area 20-25min from the hotel I would feel more comfortable. Looking in the guideline book section N paragraph 10 states something about class a retail permit and selling alcoholic beverages.

Remember, you can't carry if you are drinking.

I am pretty sure that any bar on bourbon street would be considered off limits

My rule of thumb is that if I think I might need it, I'm bringing it

My rule of thumb is that if I think I might need it, I don't there at all, carrying or not carrying.

My rule of thumb is better to have and not need than need and not have.

Well good for you Nostradamus! The rest of us can't see into the future as to when and where we may need to use our firearm.

My understanding is that if alchol is sold for consummation on the premises you can't carry.

The rule of thumb is if it is primarily a restaurant you can carry if it is primarily a bar then no carry.

...........if it is a restaurant, you can carry -- if it is a bar, then no carry.
If the establishment sells liquor for consumption on the premises, and if patrons are required to be 18 years of age or older (along with a few more rules) -- it's a bar.

As was noted, there will be very few (if any) bars on Bourbon Street where you can legally carry.

And
, if your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) exceeds .05%, you cannot legally carry anywhere (restaurant, movie theater, sidewalk, Bed Bath & Beyond, choose your pick).

p.s. IMO Doublecutter has offered excellent advice.
