My CJ needs new leaf springs and shocks. it seems for the same amount of money to buy stock springs I could just buy a 2.5 inch lift kit.

Does a 2.5 lift mess up steering and require a bunch of other parts/adjustments?

no, a 2.5" lift should be fine, maybe a dropped pitman arm only. 4" is when you need to start with longer driveshaft's, steering shafts, etc.

awesome Thank You,

would 31 10.50's still be ok or would you jump up to something bigger?

I could be wrong, but I think 2.5" is the limit for a lift without extra parts like longer sway bars etc.

I had a 2.5 lift on a 2000 TJ and rolled 33's. They rubbed with stock rims, but I bought 15x10 black wagon wheel deep dish off sets and never had any clearance issues.

You should just get rid of that jeep. I know its an emotional thing, so I will volunteer to remove it from your property so you don't have to experience it.

You're welcome. :)

CJ5's never had sway bars from the factory. CJ7's did. you can take a swaybar from a 7 and install it on a 5 if you wish.

and yes, 31's should fit fine with a 2.5" lift. I had 30's on a cj5 with no lift, as it came from the factory that way.

That's the jeep experience. I miss it...

I'm running 32x11.50 with 1/2" lift shackles and 9-leaf pack military springs with no issues.

That size would probably fill the fenders better than the 31" with a 2in lift

You'll be fine with that lift as long as you don't forget to put on your knee-pads before climbing in that bitch.

I had an '82 CJ5 with a 4" lift and a spring flop on 39x19 Mickey Thompsons and a nicely done 327 chevy with a turbo 400 transmission and DANA 44 axles...major roll cage work and racing seats with 5 point harnesses...

piss yellow with a blue stripe...some used to pick and call it the "sunbeam machine" (as in sunbeam bread truck LOL)

was fun until I had to grow up, get married and have kids
