Yep. bonitas and sharks. That's been my experiences fishing off the back of a shrimp boat. nonetheless, I'm gonna give the boats a shot on Thursday and hopefully put Capt. ST on a big tuner.

We hammered the tuna (blacks and yellows) off the back of one last fall.

Don't get me wrong, I have caught nice YF off the back of a shrimp boat, but 95% of them are sharky.

Me neither. I think I have a torn ligament in my left pinky that will render me bait boy for the weekend. Unless we hook into a marlin--then I'll play through the pain.

How near the back of a shrimp boat can you pull up and fish? I always assumed the trawls extended way out behind them, but that guy appeared to be pretty close. Was that boat not dragging at the time?

Back in the day a padnah had a shot at winning king at the tarpon rodeo in spearfishing – he wanted a big lemon and you can catch them behind shrimp boats that are culling – so I said ya I will dive w/ you as a wing man (wtf was I thinking). We found a shrimp boat in shallow ST that was culling and tied up, water was not too bad – a clear green, didn’t see any sharks when we made a pass, so on the next pass in we go. As I hit the water I wondered why I was doing this and was scared to death, my padnah saw a lemon, shot it and we went up quick – never saw a man in a gray suit but the pucker factor was really high. Ohh he did win king and we partied like rock stars, and for my help I never bought a beer all night. Would I do it again - nope. And yep generally they are very sharky

They will let you know (and probably not be nice about it) if you get too close.
Some boats stop to sort their bycatch while others will continue to trawl. I guess it depends on how many hands they have aboard.
Biggest problem I have had fishing behind a shrimp boat is the damn dolphins.

This too.
Also, they will trade fresh shrimp for beer.
