Are the Scopes that come with the combo package or the damn? Are they even serviceable or am I going to have to switch it out with a cheap decent scope?

After looking around Online Academy is running several deals on the axis, the Ruger and the Remington so I guess I'm just going to have to see which one feels best when I get there.

They're serviceable. I killed several deer with a $40 scope from academy when I was younger. Broke it in a boat crash but I'm not sure any scope would have taken that lick. They probably wouldn't last on a hard kicking magnum and they don't pick up light like a $1000 zeiss, but they are good enough to kill deer

I have a Remington 710 I love. Cheap and not smooth but shoots well. I think the 783 is the newer version

I ordered a Savage model 97(I think) .22 mag bolt action left hand, picked it up Saturday. It was 275 bucks out the door,I don't know what other calibers it is available in,but it seems to be a pretty well made rifle. I stuck a scope on it and took 3 quick shots out my back door,at 25 yards all 3 shots were touching together.Don't know what other calibers these are available in,but I was pretty impressed with it. The bolt fits tight as can be,no slop at all.
Can't wait to do some longer shooting with it,and get it dialed in.

Of course, the centerfires will probably be a different model number, but maybe around the same price range?

So went with the Ruger and put a cheap Bushnell scope on it. I really wanted to go with the Remington because im a long time Rem guy but was nervous about getting a lemon. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Forever you need to put a scope on that 783 and report back how it shoots.

If I can say something about CVA centerfire rifles...I don't know what it is about their break barrel rifle triggers, but they are seriously some of the sweetest out there. I fired a .44 mag CVA break barrel, and the trigger was like a custom match job. Just as smooth and light as can be.

I have 2, 243 and the 35 whelen, love both of them. Both are Very accurate and the 243 is a nice light carbine.

That is a 100% true story. Hit a log with my rifle strapped across my chest. Eyepiece slammed on the front deck with me on top of it. All the guts inside the scope broke.

I second this. I have to really be disciplined to not jerk most budget rifle triggers, but with my CVA 35 even knowing it's about to punch me in the shoulder the issue has disappeared. Love that gun.
