Where is the best/cheapest place to buy a Stihl chainsaw in Baton Rouge? I have had a Poulan for 20 years and it is time to buy a new one.

What you're using it for determines that. Just casual use once or twice a year, and you'd be fine with the Farm Boss or whatever it is they sell at Home Depot

They do not sell Stihl at Lowes or Home Depot. In order to sell Stihl you must be an authorized service center. Lowes and Home Depot do not service any power equipment that they sell. Go see an authorized Stihl dealer. there are several in the Baton Rouge area. The price is going to be the same pretty much anywhere you go. Stihl dealer days is going on right now which there are a few deals to be had.

When I had my tree service, I burned up one of those Wild Thang saws within a couple of hours running the same fuel and bar oil as every other saw on site. Chucked it off of a two-story roof onto the driveway and left it in the pick-up pile for the trash guys

Sad that Poulans and McCullochs are nearly bottom of the barrel now. Vintage mid-size saws could pull a bar that requires a big pro-grade saw today.

Stihl equipment prices are basically fixed unless you drive into another region. I believe stihl sets dealer prices

Home Depot most definitely sold the Farm Boss around here. 100% zero doubt in my mind.

Haven't been around that department lately, but the website doesn't list it anymore

There are other brands of good saws that will last a long time in addition to Stihl. Make sure (if you don't know anything about saws or small engines) to buy from the best servicing dealer you have around, no matter what brand.

Depending on what model Poulan you have I might be a buyer if it's 20 years old.

Pretty sure I've seen a farm boss in Home Depot before too.

The price is set by Stihl, so it won't change from place to place.

I bought my Stihl from Home Depot 3 years ago, is this a fairly recent development?

I was actually going to suggest looking at Home Depot's refurbished section. Comes with a 1 year warranty, and mine was $175 cheaper than retail.

Only saws I've seen at HD are Echo, Husqvarna, and some low-end models. They rent Makitas and sometimes sell those.

Echo

Oops

In my defense:

A) They are both orange and both make excellent chainsaws.

B) We've been living somewhere I didn't need to use the chainsaw the past 2 years. So I haven't even looked at it outside of making sure it still runs twice a year.

C) I was only looking at Stihl's and Echos's when I was trying to decide on a chainsaw. I couldn't quite remember which I purchased apparently.

Sorry guys. Insert foot in mouth now.

I had a 660 with a 36" bar to cut stumps before they got grinded. I can tell you that they certainly are not light
