Cerakote questions

Anybody have a cerakote finish on their firearms? Is it a huge waste of money? I've done a little research and found one place in Denham Springs that seems legit but I honestly don't know enough about the process. I'd hate to turn my weapons into someone and they frick them up.
I'd like to experiment and do some work myself but that seems extremely costly as well. Just wanted to get some opinions of some good ole baws before I kept digging around.

Everything I read on it makes it sound like a good thing. Wont ever rust. Its basically a ceramic paint thats baked on. I dont see how they could frick it up.

I'm looking to get my Córdoba done.
There's a place in Jackson called MS Gunworks that says they specialize in Cerakote. I don't have personal experiences with it though.

Its a great finish. Hard to scratch and much more durable than duracoat.
Reulet ginworks in covington does cerakote. Personally, I've never used them but I will probably bring my bolt gun to them and let them do the barreled action.

Thanks for the info for the place. I think I'll start off easy and bring one of my cheaper AR's to them and see how it turns out. If I like it I'll get more done.

I'd love to start doing it myself. Maybe I'll look into it as a hobby for the future.

i did it to my 1911 and have the ugliest color possible i had a stainless slide and carbon frame so i had the frame coated in bronze and its UGLY but i am having the whole thing coated trying to pick a color its relatively cheep. I am going to do my SBE 2 and my home defense shotgun but i think i am going to do it myself.

I assume you are talking about Green Dragon.I spoke with him last season in hopes to get my SBE2 done. I ended up not being able to, as some things came up but he was extremely nice and helpful. Also several people from the pawn shop I used to work at recommended him. Take that for what it's worth.

I rebuilt a 1911 for my gf's mother a few years ago and had it Cerokoted. Great finish. Definitely look around for a reputable shop to do the work, too many DIY'ers out there that can make it look good but don't do the quality prep work.

I had a shop so my mini 30 in black and I love it
It's not something I'd do myself though
if you do you'll be spending quite a bit of time cleaning and degreasing first
it's well worth what I paid as I now have the rust protection of stainless steel without the shine. I had the barrel, receiver, bolt and trigger group done, inside and out

Just had two shotguns done. Haven't hunted with them yet. Looking forward to seeing how they hold up. They look great! Will report back at the end of the year.

I'm gonna have to call green dragon tomorrow.
MS Gunworks quoted me $240 for the stock and forearm. Green Dragon website says stocks and forearms are $60!

What's the turnaround? I've got to get my 10 done before it rusts away.

Yeah that's who I found. Seems like a good place. Next time I'm in town I'm gonna bring him a rifle and see how it turns out. I will update with pictures in a couple months.

I've had 3 guns done so far. Had an AR done in burnt bronze and it was awesome. Had my duck hunting shotgun also done in burnt bronze with my stocks dipped camo. It looks pretty badass too. Just got my newest AR project finished, I did the receiver in titanium, and the barrel and parts in hunters orange.
The first two guns were the non cured paint coating by cerakote and that coating isn't super tough. On my duck gun it has scratched on the barrel and receiver because I've let it rattle around in the bottom of my boat on a bunch of hunts. Never had any trouble out of my AR but I didn't treat it very badly. My newest AR has the cured baked on cerakote coating and it looks like it's going to be pretty tough.

Lots of how to videos on you tube. You can buy the 4 ounce test size to give it a try.
It looks relatively easy to do.

+1. He got a booth set up to cerakote his rifles but I'm not sure if he's doing customer guns yet. Check with him.
I've had friends try to give it a shot and the tricky part besides the prep is getting the proper sprayer and then setting it properly. A little trial and error will eventually get you there though.
Also check with OnTargetGuns in Kenner. John Gautier did my Beretta 90 two. I'll see if I can find a picture. But since doing the coating it has easily seen 10k rounds. It has held up like any other finish but still hasn't rusted.
