Centipede grass showing purple blades
Posted by TigerTatorTots on 4/23/15 at 5:30 pm00
New sod, was put down back in March. I'm seeing purple blades scattered throughout my yard. Could the over abundance of rain we got all last week contributed to that? I know the purple means it is stressed. Was going to fertilize it, but was told to not fertilize new sod

I don't have purple. Well I may. I have every weed available in my yard. I don't recall purple in my centipede.

Don't fertilize. Contact your local extension office. It may be a sign of brown patch. It's going around a lot right now. Some fertilome systemic fungicide II

I know purple roots in Bermuda means too much nitrogen/fertilizer.
Just don't take 504's advice. My purple was the onset of brown patch which is a fungus outbreak due to leaf blades staying damp at night along with mid 60 temps at night and high humidity. As you can imagine it's going around a lot right now. Luckily doesn't kill the grass just makes it look like bad for awhile.

I just wish i could get mine to grow. It gets about 5-6hrs of sun a day and it won't grow. I have some dead spots caused by the previous owners lack of man skills and I can't get it to grow back. I assume the 2 oaks on the other side of the sidewalk are taking water from it, but i water it and have fertilized.... nothing. at least not yet.
I'm thinking about just getting some centipede sod and fixing that bad area... any ideas?

Centipede sod does not grow very well if not at all in heavy shade. May want to look at St Aug for shade tolerant
