I'll be in and around the GM area for a bachelor party in a few weeks and was wondering how the kayak fishing was around this there. Would anyone on the OB have any insight on the dos/don'ts around the area.

I've never fished the area and may have some extra time to do so.

Can catch reds, dink trout by the time you are there as the females will be prob spawning. Hit the shoreline and ponds off catfish

This is my home turf (kayak) as well as maisweh (boat). This time of year trout will be dink like lsuon said. There are always redfish, black drum and sheepshead in the area. There's three distinct different fishing in the area. Canals close by launch, open water and banks of CF lake a little further out, and broken marsh a few miles from launch. You can score in all three. Grass is already in the area but it wont be thick so plan lures accordingly. I always recommend bringing fresh shrimp and a catfish flipper to this area. Like most places, if you start catching catfish, move.

thanks for the feedback. Hopefully the weather is good and we snag a few while we're there.

If I was you I'd head a little further south and fish Leeville. You'll do better on trout or I'd fish out of Basons. The grass there is thicker and water should be cleaner for more reds

depending on how much time we have. I may end up doing that. We're staying at Boudreaux's Condeauxs so this place is convenient.

Fished this area during Paddlepalooza a few weekends ago with live shrimp and caught not the right fish for the tournament, but a good bit of sheephead, drum, and a couple small reds. Had a good time none the less.

If you're staying at Boudreaux's, just fish Leeville. Start at the public launch and you can go any direction.
