I work with several Catahoula rescue sites as well own a couple. One of mine is a great hog hunter and is the best dog I've ever owned. The other is more of a house dog but is still wonderful. Anyway, there are several Catahoulas and Catahoula mixes for adoption in animal shelters across Louisiana. If you love the outdoors you couldn't ask for a better dog.

Do you have links to some of the sites?

I adopted a catahoula/lab mix and he's amazing. The sweetest dog to strangers and kids, energetic and ready to play, but if I'm not available to play he's perfectly content on chilling out.

For adoptions or fostering, you should check out the Facebook pages of St. Landry Parish Animal Control (check out the March 8 photo of Peter, a Catahoula mix), Iberia Parish, and Caddo. They usually have an abundance of Catahoulas and mixes. If you're interested in breeders, I got my Gus from Monaghan Catahoulas in Denham Springs. The owner Terri in a Moo U grad but don't hold it against her. She breeds some amazing dogs. They have a website. Thanks for helping to save our state dog.

For rescue organizations, try the Facebook pages of Janeen's Catahoula Rescue (based out of Montana but they also rescue in Louisiana),Blackjack Catahoula Rescue (based out of Tennessee but like Janeen's, they rescue in Louisiana), and Catahoula Rescue South Central (they are based out of Louisiana and Texas). If you aren't on Facebook, let me know and I can post links. Swamped at work so I'm doing this on my breaks. Again, thanks to everyone who loves this wonderful breed.

I've got 2...one is 10 years old and is truly catahoula-crazy. He's got major anxiety, always pacing & always whining. He's a good dog though, very sweet and listens well. I love him anyway but he's been around since before the wife, so she's not too fond.

We have a second one that is 9 months old. She has the best temperament of any dog i've ever known. She's a complete sweetheart & she's got beautiful coloring.
