Can you save the bladder from a doe you've killed?

After spending $20 today for 2 ounces of estrous doe urine, it got me thinking. A) Does anyone think this stuff works for hunting during the peak of the rut and B) if so then could you collect the bladder out of a freshly killed doe during the rut and use that urine? Or should I save my money for nice bottle of bourbon and not worry about doe pee?

If you're that hard up for $20, sure, try and keep a doe bladder. But the time of year keeping a bladder might help, I wouldn't be shooting does anyway.

...not to mention you're going to get covered in piss...

Not so much that I'm hard up for $20 but I guess I'm getting older and just wonder if that's a waste of money and if not then I feel like I'm throwing money away then with a fresh doe kill. I always try to remove the bladder neatly without getting piss all over the meat anyway, I think I could drop it in a jar. We hunt in Wisconsin so we have to shoot some does or else we'll be overrun. LoL I got 11 in one pic the other day. Gonna smack a few of them.

Two years ago i shot a doe in the morning. Me and my buddy were cleaning it and saw she had a full bladder. So we got a zip lock, put some paper towels in it, and carefully drained the urine into the bag.

It was rank nasty.

He hunted over it that afternoon and had three or four bucks show up sniffing around. none that met his high standards to shoot... but we are pretty sure the fresh urine was effective at getting some rutting bucks to pass by his stand.

I killed the biggest deer of my life over Tinks about ten years ago. 150 inch ten point. December 23 and it had just rained all morning. Went and poured a whole bottle out because we were leaving that night. Sat next to a tree and at 2:00 P.M he came out of cane in a gallop towards the tree I poured it one.

Yes and I believe the fresh urine from a doe is actually better than anything our of a bottle in the store. Also the tarsal glands on a rutting buck are pretty good.

My mom used to raise deer and would catch urine from her does and sell it to local hunters to help offset the costs. Alot of hunters swore by it and said it worked much better than the store bought.

We do it all the time. Get a syringe and empty bottle. Use the syringe to extract pee and it won't bust.

Thanks. I work in a pharmacy and we decided that's exactly what we're going to try. It seems to me we're either wasting money on junk that doesn't work or throwing good money away with the deer we kill. I'll let you know how it works.

My dad and I do the syringe and bottle method. Urine from a young buck is also good when making a mock scrape or pretending to work an active scrape of an older deer.

True story.....there was a scrape study done some years back on a property in GA. They set up cameras on real and mock scrapes and placed urine in them to see what attracted the most bucks. They put doe in estrus, dominant buck, and graduate assistant who was working on the study. Top two scents were a tie. Dominant buck and graduate assistant.

That's not to say doe in estrus urine doesn't work, but people get too worried about where they pee. I shot a doe during muzzleloader several years ago. She walked up behind me on the trail I walked in on and had her nose to the ground at the base of the tree I pissed at before getting into the stand.

No, I'm not suggesting scents don't matter or that you shouldn't pay attention to the wind. Just interesting conversation.

Not saying your wrong by any means but there is a big difference between a doe checking it out and a 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 yr old buck doing the same.

I had a professor that would put out cameras on scrapes and there were numerous animals that would use them. It was like a huge scent marker for every animal in the area. Raccoons, foxes, bobcats, etc

Uh absofreakinglutely. Killed a many a buck coming straight in to my pee rag.

Seems like more trouble than it might be worth. A couple small bottles of tinks lasts me all year. So that's like $15-20 max per year.
