I have been apart of a golf cart in the back of a truck... Hit a bump and it bounced out the truck and flipped a couple times. We loaded it back up and continued to the course. It was then known as "The Tank"
Luckily we were on a not well travelled road or could have gotten ugly.

Thanks for all of the input guys. It sounds like I will just have to make another 3-4 hour round trip to get it on a later date when I can get a trailer. Destroying my tailgate or bouncing the new cart out of the back of the truck while going down the interstate doesn't sound like it would be a lot of fun watching. Well, not from my point of view anyway.

You gave the best advice in the thread and it's ignored.

No, I think what he said was great advice and I think it should work just fine. But, I just don't know if my ramps would be too steep and if it is worth the risk, that's all.

Do you know anyone that will let you borrow a utility trailer for the weekend? We live in Louisiana... every other house has one parked in the back yard!

2 1x6s run from cab to end of tailgate. Load cart on them. They distribute the weight evenly across the bed

This is the right answer. You should have no problem doing it this way. Just make sure to strap it down really good.

Put it in the bed. You bought a truck for a reason.

if you are worried about the weight on the tailgate then pull the batteries out and put them in the cab, or truck bed if there is room.

I don't see it being a problem. 2x12s would be even better

I'd make sure my tailgate cables were extra new before attempting that.

This. I went to drive a Honda Foreman into a Silverado bed a few years back and the cables popped. Scared the shite out of me and screwed the tailgate up when it hit the bumper.
