can I get some help from the grass experts

I recently bought a house and I'd like to get the lawn in shape. This is my first time having to deal with a lawn of my own so I really don't even know where to start. Any guidance would be appreciated. I realize that I may be too late to make and good changes this year, but I'd like to at least prepare for next year.
My front yard seems to actually be in pretty good shape. Judging by pictures on the internet, I think its either Bermuda or Zoysia, but I'm not certain. It has a few small patches of crabgrass that I'd like to get rid of... but overall, it's one of the better front lawns on my street.
My back yard is a terror. It is basically cow pasture with everything in it (cow pasture is what my neighborhood used to be). It grows twice as fast at my front yard and has very thick stuff that makes mowing a real pain, even after one week of growing.
What is the easiest way to get everything under control?

Pics would help a bunch. If your front yard is Bermuda, MSMA is great

Not to hijack, but....I have no idea what type of grass I have. My question for you lawn geniuses is if I put down some St. Aug sod in my back yard (which stays in the shade, so I think St. Aug is the most shade tolerant), but the rest of my yard isn't St. Aug, how will that work out? Is this something that I should do or avoid?

Front looks like centipede.
Back looks like crap-grass. :)

Front is centipede and looks pretty good. Cut it 2-2.5 inches. Back had a lot of broad leaves and bahiagrass. 24d if it's a cool day will get BLs and MSM will kill bahia

If I were to kill those now (which is literally the entire back yard), would I be able to seed with centipede and have the seed take at this time of year, or do I need to wait until early spring to do this? Do I spary the entire back yard with both 24d and MSM? or do I just to confine the spraying of each chemical to just the respective plants they are trying to kill
Also, what should I use for spot removal of clovers and crab grass in my front yard?

If your entire backyard is just weeds.m, I would just start fresh. Roundup the whole thing, till, level and then replant. Sod is immediate, seeding is cheap.
Not worth fighting to save just a little good grass if any
