On a previous trip to Colorado, we primitivw camped in national forests primarily. Needed 4wd to go down certain roads. Any remote spots to take a 4wd like this in LA or MS? Thinking maybe Kisatchie?

Sadly Louisiana doesn't have the best recreation and camping areas, especially compared to other states.

MANY years ago (16-18) we used to take our jeeps to Camp Claiborne near Forest Hill. We'd find some random trails and take them deep into the woods and set up camp. It was a great place at the time but it looks like things have changed. Might be worth looking into though.

The kisatchie district of kisatchie national forest has some great places to see. Lots of terrain. Longleaf vista view is awesome as well as kisatchie bayou. You can camp anywhere you want but you can only go down designated roads with a vehicle. If you want to ride ATVs there are miles and miles of designated trails.

As to the poster above, he is correct. The trash of Louisiana ruins all our great places.

That trip looks like about what I'm looking for. Not rock crawling like at Sicily Island but just trails. Everything I see on the official site says ORVs have to be less than 50" wide though?

A bit off topic but where did y'all camp in Colorado? I have a wedding in Crested Butte in August and planned to drive and camp. I want to do Paradise Divide but looking for suggestions. I'll be a in 4x4 F250.

Roosevelt national forest near Estes Park. Trail actually crossed through the RMNP for a short while but looped back into the national forest.

The last time I went there was a few years ago to sight in .22's with one of my friends. A deputy sheriff was patrolling the area and noticed us, and acted like we were drug dealers or something. I really don't want to go back if that is how they act.
