Camping at Grand Isle - Update on Original Post

My wife (No Pics), & I are going camping Memorial Day weekend. We're coming from West Monroe, so need to be prepared. We'll be camping at the Grand Isle State Park in a tent. I'm all for it, but everything was booked up except for unimproved camp sites. (No water or electricity). I wouldn't worry about it too much, but my teenage sons will be along. Any suggestions on what to bring or just bait suggestions. Thanks a ton guys.
You guys asked for an update, so here goes. We were scheduled to camp from Saturday and leave Tuesday. We ran behind schedule Saturday as we witnessed a pretty bad accident on Hwy 27 near Crystal Springs. We stopped to assist those involved until paramedics arrived. The at fault driver had been drinking. Not sure of the outcome. We took off after about an hour. Made it to Grand Isle around 6:45 to set up camp. Wasn't too easy in gale force winds. Sunday we surf fished & the winds were pretty bad. It was tough fishing. By about 5:00pm, everyone was sun burnt to hell. The wind picked up pretty heavily that evening. Everyone packed up & left early except for us & one other camper in anticipation of the storm. We left the bottom of our spare tent open with all of our gear & it flooded. The wind pulled the steaks out of the ground on our main tent and lifted the rain fly. Not too comfortable trying to sleep on wet sand covered mattresses. Also, I kept mistaking the mosquitos for pterodactyls. Monday morning, we decided to pack up & head to N O. All of our clothes & shoes were soaked. It took probably 8 trips from the beach to the truck. A wagon is an absolute necessity. We had a great time once we got to the city. I can honestly say that I will never in my life time stay in Grand Isle again unless there are 4 walls with a roof surrounding me and AC.
The town itself is beautiful with great scenery.
Sorry for the wall of text.

pack as light as possible, you have to hump all of your shite down the beach a little ways from the car. There are lines of rocks in the water I guess to prevent erosion, it kind has made the water a little stagnant in that area. Havent been in about 2 years though.

Bring a thermacell and 1000 refills and be pretty strict about opening the tent door. Skeeters and gnats can get silly at night there
Fishing should be pretty good in the surf. Get out there early At night you can catch trout under the lights at bridgeside

Can't wait to fish. With the wife & the boys, I can't imagine the tent won't be open more than 90% of the time. Where can I take the boys to go crabbing aside from the local strip club?

You can crab from the pier in the state park. Bring long ropes with ring nets.

I camped out there once. The advice on the bugs is good. They are insane at night. I would bring some battery powered fans to get some circulation at night. Once I closed up my because of bugs, I didn't have any air circulating and I sweated my arse off.

I appreciate all of the tips. Keep them coming.

There is an island long garage sale that Saturday. Send your wife shopping and you and the boys catch fish and crabs. The island will have lots of people.
Definitely bring some type of fan, maybe a power inverter with a battery. If you have a wagon with big wheels, it will be easier to pull on the beach to carry all your gear.

I also think depending upon the mental make up of your wife (weather she can fathom the heat and bugs properly or not) I would have a couple places stored in my phone that I could call for a room with A/C if needed.
All that being said with the stronger south East winds that will help some with the bugs and heat.

My wife (No Pics), is hell bent on going camping Memorial Day weekend
I love Grand Isle as much as anybody but no way I'd be going to the Island that weekend. Stayed in Leeville last year and decided to run to Bridgeside to eat and goof off. Couldn't even find a place to park the truck without the trailer.

Rent a camp with air conditioning. You're gonna burn up in a tent.

Go north to Arkansas. Too damn hot to tent camp in La.

I'd go to Corney Lake. Bathrooms etc. And 4 hours closer

I camped at Grand Isle and Fourchon back when I was 17-20 years old. There's No way I'd do that now. But, if you must, lol, Bring lots of bug spray and a fan. A wagon would be a big help. And I always bring a radio
