Just bought a used pop up to take the grandkids camping. I need to get a 12 volt auxiliary battery. What is the best 12 volt battery for long life and power? I'm assuming a deep cycle battery is recommended? TIA

Any deep cycle battery will suit you. The key is to charge it as soon as you get home. Don't discharge it during normal use, then let it sit for 2 weeks and charge it just before you go out again. That's what kills them.

Interstate batteries had last the longest for boats and my truck camper.

Two 6 volts in series if size and weight are not a factor.

I think there area actually only a couple of factories that make them, so there is not a lot of difference. I would buy the best that you can afford, but not step into the super high-priced ones that are filled with gel, etc. just go somewhere reputable and get a good, high quality deep cycle battery....you are looking for a good warranty and the highest amp/hour rating that you can find.

There are only 2 or 3 manufacturers that "Private Label" for everyone but all of the offerings vary in technical ways. Each customer or retailer has their own specifications and design criteria that are generally not shared with other retailers doing business with the same source. So having said all of that there are differences. Capacity is limited by size, acid volume and plate surface area. So the idea of 2 6 volt batteries in series is good one but so is 2 12 volts in parallel. Maybe with a AB switch.

I found a Group 27 deep cycle battery on sale at Cabela's in Bristol, Va. for $99.00. That was the best deal I could find. Was also the first time I had ever been to the new Cabela's. It's about 5 miles from Bass Pro, and honestly, I like the Cabela's better. Thanks for all your recommendations! Haven't bought a deep cycle battery since the days I was tournament fishing. Back then, the Sears Die Hard deep cycle battery was the cat's meow...
