I'm considering getting a camp for next season and I'm looking for some opinions and information. I need just the most basic of camps. Something with running water and electricity, a toilet and enough room to sleep 4 people (two bunks). It would be nice if it's in an area I can walk out back and shoot clays or plink around at cans with the youngsters, but it's not 100% necessary. Same with a stove and a shower. Nice but not necessary.

-How much am I looking at if I go for a rental?
-How much am I looking at if I purchase?
-Where would you look for one of these?

buddy of mine has a camp that backs up to the Tensas river in Ferriday. Very nice place. He has stocked ponds but he bought it for wood duck hunting.

Is he looking to lease? Does he have contact info for other camps in the area?

Don't think he's up to lease but i'll inquire about surrounding land from him if you want me to.

Caught some real nice bass from his property last year.

If you don't mind, yeah. If he knows his neighbors he might have some intel I'd never find online.

If you can find a piece of land, those Cook portable buildings are relatively cheap and easy to set up as a nice camp. I have one for a workshop that is 12 x 30 with a loft big enough for a couple beds for under $7,000. You could finish it out for staying in for a couple grand.

I may have 2 camps and a 40ft storage container for sale in a month or so. Youll have to get your own land and move. Camps are all portable. 14x50 office trailer dressed out with a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom and 8x40 container with 3 bunks, kitchen and batroom.

Presently just outside Port Gibson.

You own land around there or in a lease?

No but I hunt a lot of public land in the area. You hunt up there?

Not as much as I did or would like to, would love to find a lease or land over there. If you get in a bind you may be able to work a deal out with the owner of Edward's motel in Jonesville. She is really nice and I know others who have.

That might work. Do they have signs out front? I'm guessing they're all owned independently?

That's good intel right there. I've considered staying at hotels and do from time to time when i'm in a bind; obviously it would be better to have a camp I can leave a boat/pirogue/ATV at but hotels work in a pinch.

Yeah most have signs out. You will probably be leasing the land.

If you go the hotel route in Jonesville I advise not to leave anything in truck that you're fond of

I used to do that before I had a camper. There are places adjacent to BCNWR that have hookups. One is walking distance to Brooks Brake lot. I've worked a deal with the owner to pay a reduced price for nights I'm not there. She's super nice and lives right across the road.

This is why I want a camp. I don't even feel good with steel cables and locks tying my pirogue/boat/ATV down in the back of the truck. Too many people with cable cutters.

You'd be my neighbor in Cross. Good people. We been there for 25 years. Don't take kindly to Canadians. Very family friendly. Bring extra gas if your kid rides a bike.

Camps go from 15-45K or so depending on waterfront, age, etc. Always one or two for sale.
