Okay, probably a long shot but let's see if the OB can come through!

I am taking a trip to California (Northern area) in a couple of weeks and would like to get a guided bass fishing trip, perhaps on Clear Lake. Any of you been to that area and did some fishing? Any information will help!

Rainbow trout swim bait.

Seriously, they eat trout over there...

I've caught some calico bass off the coast just south of LA. That's about all the fishing I did while I was there though. There are a few of the OB regulars living in Northern CA though. I'm sure some of them can be of help.

If you go this route the guide should be able to give you the info you need.

Whereabouts you staying? Clearlake is gonna look really nasty by the time you get there. The lake hasn't gotten the water recharge (drought) that it normally gets and the algal blooms will be pretty wicked. But I can tell you this...if you can put up with a little stink the quality of the fish you catch will be second to none.

ETA: TClay is right about those trout lures. They do work on alot of CA lakes.

We are staying at the Ritz Carlton on Lake Tahoe. Not sure about the fishing on Lake Tahoe, just know Clear Lake was #2 in the country in Bassmaster magazine which is why I mentioned it. Anything closer or even on Lake Tahoe would be much better.

I have not heard anything great about the fishing on Tahoe itself. Clearlake is truly an awesome fishing lake if it's bass you're after. Umbrella rigs and senkos work wonders on that lake. Oroville ain't bad either if you could find a guide on that one. It would only be slightly closer for you.

No, sorry. Every time I go out there it's with a buddy who's a tournament fisherman. It's like fishing with a guide but all I have to do is buy the beer.
