They'll crush the shite out of a Spro frog, too. Minute a speck hits it though, Kermit is dead.

What's the difference between buzzbaits and spinners that causes one to be short struck?

Link doesn't work for me.

I'll be fishing Leeville/Fourchon/GM on Saturday then Delacroix on Sunday so I'll toss them around and see if they catch fish.

My guess is because the spinner stays down in the water where the buzz bait is a topwater bait, making it tougher for a redfish to get a good shot at it since they either have to roll over or come over the top.

Makes sense. I've never fished with a buzzbait.

They will eat on top. It seems like in some estuaries they eat on top more willingly than others.

If it's like other topwater baits you must be very disciplined because it may take two or three tries before the red gets zeroed in. Don't snatch it, just keep working bait until you feel the fish.

Yep. With a floating top water, you can leave it in the strike zone much longer than a buzz bait, plus treble hooks help.

A red almost has to come out of the water and come down on the bait. Especially in shallow water, they can't really angle themselves to get the mouth around without doing that. Doesn't stop them from trying at all. Reds on top water are awesome, especially really early in the morning and everything is still calm, they'll freakin blow up hard on it out of nowhere. It's just setting the hook that I've found to be more difficult.

Topwater fishing is addicting as hell, one blowup on a topwater will keep me fishing one for hours waiting for that next one.

I'm going to see how it works out with these hooks first and if short strikes become an issue I'll either give up on the idea or seek other hook options. Though I'd like to stay with these style hooks as it keeps them from snagging on everything.
