Anybody have any experience on what the best bullets to shoot out of a 25-06 are? May buy one this weekend and don't know what shells are most efficient in them.

Academy has the lower end Rem 700s on sale for 379 so I may pick one up this weekend when I'm in Dothan if they have one.

Don't do that. Please don't do that. For that price you can get a Ruger American or Savage Axis, both of which are miles beyond the 700 post Freedom Group.

Not Hornady SST 117gr. Very unimpressive performance.

I shoot a 25-06, federal premium 115 nosler for deer hunting.

In the last 2 years, I've shot at 8 pigs and 3 deer. None have run more than 50 yds. It seems like a pretty good round. There are lots of good reviews of that round online as well.

There's not a real big selection of 25-06 in my price range around here. I already have two 700s but they're alittle older. Thought it might have been a good deal.

This would be my recommendation also. I shot a buck with this bullet at 350 yds, shooting uphill across a canyon. Shot the buck facing me. The bullet entered dead center chest and destroyed that mass of bone at the base of the neck. The deer cut a backwards flip then slid down the side of the canyon. I was sold on that shot alone, but killed several more deer with great results. Follow the link to the article. It's not just a standard 115 grain bullet, it's partitioned. The partition is the key. Great bullet and Federal Premiums are very accurate factory loads.

Ended up buying a savage axis for 280 at gander mountain. Did I get ripped off or not?
