Building an outdoor table

Have a question for you woodworkers and DIYers.
I'm going to build an outdoor dining table. I'm going to stain it and and put some type of UV/water protection over that.
What wood should I get. Is using untreated pine going to be alright?
Is using treated pine not ideal for staining?
Should i use cedar instead? and where do you even get cedar from around Baton Rouge?
This is the design i'm going with and it looks like this person used treated pine at least for the legs and base.
I've seen some 4 post tables with 2x4s as the legs. that seems like that would be weak and wobbly.

Your two best bets for outdoor wood are cypress or white oak. Also Ipe if you can find it.
do not try to use treated pine as it's wet and will likely warp as it dries.
Cedar, if it's what I'm thinking of would not finish very well.

I just finished a laundry room countertop and bench seat I made out of cedar. I think it came out beautiful. Lot of contrasting colors in cedar.
Btw--just satin polyurethane. No stain.

I also recommend cypress. If you want to use sinker there is a supplier in the Houma area. $7.00 board foot, beautiful wood.
Use a waterlox marine finish over a sealer.

Yeah i've read using a marine sealer is recommended.
Thanks for the advice. I see there's a few lumber places north of cortana that should have some cypress.

Concrete table top. Buy the edges and mix/pour yourself.

Go with Cypress or Cedar

quote:Idk. I used a combination of 1x4 and 1x6 cedar siding with one side sanded down smooth as a baby's bottom.
