I didn't even know Brown Widows existed until recently. Was having a conversation with a fellow reptile lover and he started talking about Brown Widows. When I got home I researched them - and oddly, I found a half dozen of the little frickers on my back patio in the next couple weeks. Right now I've got 3 living between the window and screen in my kitchen. They've been all over the place.

Today I looked in an old trash can that I use to block a gap in my gate, and I found this:

3 egg sacs - you can tell they are Brown Widow egg sacs by the spiky appearance.

Only one viable solution…KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!

I wish I had a pic of the big momma frantically climbing as the flame nipped at her 8 heels, but I ran to get my camera and she was gone when I got back - hope the flames got her.

I did, however, save the 3 egg sacs - cause who doesn't want a jar full of 500 baby Brown Widows?

It will be that much more satisfying when I burn 500 of them than if I just burnt the egg sacs.

was cleaning out the trash this weekend at a friend's camp, getting the boats ready for duck season, and almost grabbed a brown widow in a trash bucket. thing was fat and ready to lay that eggsack. Almost shite my pants.

I've got a few living in my back patio. They don't bother me and I don't bother them.

Had one in the print shack one day back when I worked construction. Never seen one before that day.

Spiders really don't bother me either. Kept a Black Widow alive in the corner ceiling of my gameroom for a few days til the wife freaked. But my Yorkie is a voracious frog hunter and likes to stick his nose in everything in the yard. Don't want him to get bit.

As much as I hate any spider, the brown widows won't frick you up too bad for alot of people. Some people get it worse than others but by my understanding alot of people will only get a fairly minor bite that looks like staph and it will go away after a few days. That being said I'll keep my distance from them whenever I can.

I think only one of the 3 egg sacs hatched so far. I threw a wasp and a moth in there after a few days, but they ignored them, so I guess they'll just starve to death. Had planned on exterminating them, but I just don't have the heart to kill them, so I guess I'll "passively" let them die off.
