Very interesting video. I'm glad we don't have cottonmouths in western Virginia, but these broadbanded water snakes are quite common. In any event, I won't be handling either of them. Maybe Teague will, but not me... LINK

we actually do have a good number of both down in MS....interesting video, but I won't be getting nearly that close to either kind.

pretty clear difference imo.

aside from that, I don't think I will ever try and catch a poisonous snake by actually touching it with my hands.

Just got onto my buddy this past weekend because he killed a snake that he swore was a mocassin, and I could tell right away that it wasn't by looking at it's size (girth) and shape of the head

That guy is nuts. Watch his videos where he goes one by one through the most painful insect stings in the world.

I don't mind the water snakes. I'll be using a hook with the cottonmouths.

He is a bit over the top in a lot of his videos. He does it for ratings, obviously. He kind of annoys me, but he does give good info, usually.

He really makes some great videos. He's likeable, he's informative, he's honest, and the videos are fun. He's a little over the top for some shite, but it gets views. Great vid

Excellent video! I bought my first snake (a broad banded water snake) for 25 cents from the snake guy in the neighborhood. Things were good 'til one day I put it on the ground and it tried to escape. When I cornered the snake up against the house it flattened it's body and it's head into an arrow shape and convinced me it was a poisonous cottonmouth.I killed it with a shovel. When I looked for fangs and didn't find any I realized that snake had put on a convincing act. I guess that experience sparked my curiosity that led to an understanding of snakes place in the natural world.

It's quite a rush, but it definitely will make you pucker. It's amazing how much they can contort their mouth to try to get a bite on you. If you don't have just the right grip on them, they'll get you. My dad has been bitten by a Cottonmouth while handling (or mishandling) one, and my uncle was bitten by several venomous species. I generally don't put a hand on them, but sometimes you just can't help yourself.
