I want to get my boat setup for bowfishing, but not permanently, want to still be able to use trolling motor as it is laid out currently and also not have a deck there for crabbing. what are some setups that do not break the bank but still allow for bowfishing? is a deck even needed or can i just figure out a way to mount removable lights and hook to the generator?

A raised deck is nice, but depending on where you will be fishing it's not totally necessary. I used to have a 2x4 with flood lights screwed to it and I just c-clamped the board to the boat. Then I would stand on the ice chest on the front. It wasn't pretty, but it worked.

How hard would it be to actually hit the fish for someone that's never been bowfishing?
I want to go so bad but I've never done it.

Sorry for the hijack

I went last year, first time I've ever shot a bow. I did well. Just listen to what the guide tells you to do. They say it's actually easier for beginners, because experienced hunters have to break a few habits to shoot the correct way.

No clue but I want to get into it as well. Our boat house (not far from your avi) has a covered deck and this past weekend saw several gar, one 6' and I really wish I had a bow.

It's not that hard once you know where you need to aim. You will miss fish and it can be frustrating. We need to have an OB gar rodeo in Manchac.

I'm not far from there in Terry Harbor. I see at least a 6-8' gar rollover every now and then in the water in front of our boathouse.

Easiest setup is to buy 12v LED flood lights and just hook them to your trolling motor plug. I built a small aluminum deck that I could easily take on and off and it worked great. No generator or noise to mess with. If you want to use your trolling motor while bowfishing you may just have to add another battery
