So the thread about the 8ft gar got me thinking, why doesn't the state have records for bowfishing/misc means of take?

Is it just too much trouble for them to setup and run?

My daughter just started bow fishing. She and her hubby went Monday night and she got three small gars. Not bad for her first time trying. Oh, they were shooting off a bridge that is about 12' above the water. Long arse shot for a small fish.

I'm sure some crazy group does it, but do you want them to have a hoop net division as well? A rifle division? Hand thrown spear division? Cast net division?

I guess the point is they can't make a division for every single way used to capture a fish.

Back in the mid nineties, I was living in Brookhaven MS and a guy there had gotten me into bowfishing. The guy that ran the archery shop where we hung out all the time brought in a newspaper clipping of his nephew that had shot a gar that was over 7'. I remember the newspaper called it a state record at the time. I believe it was in LA, but it might have been MS. I don't know what kind of record they were talking about, or if the newspaper was just wrong. But, since that time, I always assumed bowfishing records were kept.
