Bow sight levels: necessity or gimick for hunters?

My bow fell out of tree last year. it busted my rest and I replaced that but my sight was fine with he exclusion of the attached level. After season I had intended on replacing but never got around to it.
Conceptually, I am still able to group arrows at 30 yards in 4" circles so I'm not too concerned. I did however get to thinking about the purpose of the level especially with a drop away rest.
Since the line of sight is peep through sight pin to target(approximately 3" above the arrow) and the axis of rotation left to right is through the grip (immediately below the arrow rest) It appears that the potential for arrow misalignment it miniscule at best for hunting ranges. The rest falls away immediately so the bow being canted slightly left or right is not imparting further force on the arrow beyond the draw and release.
So what says the OB is this little level really at that useful?

I have one. I think that it is so you don't torque the bow and pop the strings out of the cams. Of course I have never shot perfectly straight, still no issues. Before I release an arrow, it is something I glance at.

I think you answered your own question.
But it would probably annoy me and I would replace it.

Mainly, IMO, to train yourself not to severely cant the bow.
Again, IMO, unless you have bow canted "gangsta" style, shouldn't affect arrow too much in most bow kill ranges. I don't pay attention to it when shooting deer, sometimes I glance at while practicing,, sometimes..

It's part of my process and helps me ensure consistent form. I definitely shoot better when I remember to check my level, but really think it is completely due to me having another way to check my alignment. Similar to a kisser button, it's just another way to make sure you are consistently using the same form and eliminating as many variables as possible.

I have one but never use it.

I have a natural cant to the left, as I tend to slightly supinate with the grip hand when I draw. It is slight though.
I may just superglue a new level back on if I can find one but at the moment all I can find is replacing the entire sight and it does not seem like $50 much less a $150 problem to me at the moment.

I took it off my first bow, never use it on my current

As is my opinion with most everything when it comes to hunting, especially bow hunting, it all depends on your preference. If you are satisfied with 4" groups at 30, then you have your answer. If not, put a level back on. I think the level is going to do nothing but improve your accuracy. It's certainly not going to hurt it. Shooting a bow well is all about consistency. If you cant or torque your bow, you're going to see the effects at 30 yards.

As long as you shoot consistently wrong one way, adjust the sights to that and you'll be good. I keep my left hand open, and the bow just plumbs itself up every time.

Never owned a sight with a level so I don't think it is necessary - helpful perhaps for the reasons stated by others that use them - but certainly not necessary. I have missed my share over the years but I cant say it was due to not having a level - more like operator error
Based on the group you are getting, I would not change anything at this point so close to the season. Good Luck

I never look at mine.

I don't look at mine at normal hunting ranges. At 50+ yards it definitely makes a difference for me.

I'm not good at explaining it, but it does affect uphill and downhill shots, assuming the bow was not sighted in from a tree. Here is about the best explanation that I have found on it. (copied from archerytalk.)
So, what is 3rd axis?
Remember your sight ring is on a threaded rod?
Well, what if the entire sight ring was mounted on a door hinge?
Yup. What if the entire sight ring could swing like a door?
You could swing the door towards you or away from you.
Well, let's say we swing the door towards you 45 degrees.
The bubble level still reads level, i.e., the threaded rod is still horizontal.
You know what will happen on a steep uphill shot?
Even if you aim uphill, and your bow is not tilted left or right,
the bubble level will lie to you and force you to tilt your bow.
Try this with a 24-inch level. Hold the level in your hand so that it is still horizontal, but the angle between the level and your arm is 45 degrees, as if you swung a door towards you. Raise your arm towards the ceiling.
The bubble level will not stay in the middle.
Adjust the third axis on your sight is the same as adjust the door swing so that it is 90 degrees.

There is one on my sight...never even look at it. Hasn't affected anything as far as I can tell.
