So we are headed out to Henderson tonight to hopefully practice and take a few fish. This may degrade to sacalait/bream fishing under the lights. In any case it should be fun.

What I am here looking for is any advice. Possible locations for a second trip. We are located in Baton Rouge.

Aim under the fish more than you think.

I had heard this, I have considerable experience bow hunting from the age of 12. But have heard little in the way of aiming transfers and you need to undershoot them a good deal, thanks for the info though!

aim at the center of the body of the fish. Once you get that aim drop your arrow tip 2 to 3 ".

Verrett seems like a good place if you're after gar.

Tonight we are after whatever we can get, just looking for the experience. Are gar worth attempting to clean and eat? I have heard they are very good, but hard to clean and have a lot of bones.

the only thing you will be able to shoot is gar. They are a blast to shoot but I dont eat them. My grandmother used to cook up some good gar balls but she died before teaching me the proper way to do them without it tasting like shite. I give all my gar to the local folk drinkin outside lake mary store

Like others have said, aim way low. The water changes the angle big time

In the old days we would drop them off at the "black bar" on the way back from bow fishing. Times have changed, probably isn't a good idea anymore...

I called LDWF and asked if catfish could be taken with a bow. He said it was an interesting question. He looked it up and called be back about 30 min later and said cats were fair game. I also thought you could take carp? Any truth in that?

both can be taken legally but you wont ever see a cat or a carp under the lights. All you will see are gar

All the rain yesterday might have made the water muddy...

This only works at a specific depth. The water refraction changes depending on how deep the fish is. The deeper he is, the lower you have to aim.

I have shot many catfish with my bow at night in the marsh around burns point. In the dead end canals out in the middle you will see a lot of catfish but mostly later in summer when water clears up more.
