I'm scheduled to go on a guided bow fishing trip Friday night out of the Venice area. I have never bow fished before, but an avid bow hunter.

Any tips I need to know before going? People say that you need to shoot under the fish. Any truth to that?

Aim further below than you think, then go a little lower.

I did it a few weeks ago for the first time and I probably missed the first 15-20 shots until I got the hang of it. It can be frustrating at first but you'll get the hang of it if you have enough opportunities.

Shoot low

Take your time with your shots, never fails that as soon as you take a long bad shot, while you are busy reeling in and reloading a prime easy shot will present

Shoot low. Keep on shooting lower until you hit them. Once you start making contact, your brain will figure it out.

The bows should have finger savers.

Bugs aren't that bad once you leave the dock. Dress comfortable and just spray some bug spray on you. What I've been instructed is aim below 6" for every foot beneath the water. But angle and distance come into play as well. Don't waste shots - as others said, it never fails that when you're reeling in, a red will pop up right next to the boat. Don't rush to be the first shooter. Sometimes they spook and run after a missed shot, but often they dart a few feet then just float right by the boat. The second or even third shooter often gets the fish. Always make sure your arrow tips are tightened - they can and will slip off of fully impaled shots.

just echoing what other people say, aim low. Hopefully the water is low and you dont have to aim as low. I wouldnt focus on aiming real hard. Like the guy said earlier its more of something that your brain has to figure out. you will miss a lot, dont take it too seriously. I go a ton now and its probably my favorite thing to do during the summer, im sure yall will have a great time.

I wear pants, long sleeve shirt, a buff and a hat when I go out. But also bring OFF and gnat juice.
