I passed boaters license test in Alabama back in 2006. Would I need to retake the test for Louisiana? I'm not sure what the restrictions are for state to state and how long the licenses are good for.

If your license is NASBLA approved/certified I don't think you have to retake the safety class. I have a Maryland license and was told by somebody in LWDF headquarters it was good.

I was supposed to get one of those, and I started the class online but never finished. It's bullshite.

When they first started it, I was old enough not to have to get one. Then they moved the date back and now I'm supposed to. I've been driving a boat since I was 10 years old, and I think it's horse shite that I'd have to take a damn class.

Never heard of this. I bought my outboard in Oklahoma and it has a registration sticker on it. I've never seen registrations on outboards before.

In Alabama it's an endorsement on your license. That should transfer if another state requires it. You can go online to the AL DMV and reprint your cert if you took it online

Can't tell if you're being facetious or just ignorant, the whole thing is free.

Anywho you OP, if the course was NASBLA approved you should be in the database. It would be a good idea to carry it with you though.

I took the online class. It takes a full 8 hours to complete. Lots of valuable information for people that think they know how to drive a boat. I would take it even if the state didn't require it.

With some of the things I have seen on the water over the last few years how can someone argue NOT to have our younger boaters take it and learn something?

Its free to take the class and the test. But once you pass, you have to pay a fee to get your certification. So you basically just dont pay until you pass.

I never finished. It's a very long online class. Some useful info, but the slides are timed and you can't advance on your own. So if you read fat, you still have to sit and wait. Very annoying.

When did they start charging a fee? I had to take it after they moved the age up and it was totally free a couple of years back.

I did learn some stuff in there.

It was free when I took it a year ago.

Rather long, and it's a pain in the arse Bc it makes you sit on each page for 20 seconds.

Worth it though when you print your certificate at the end and your mom proudly hangs it on the fridge.

Same here, finished the class, and took the practive exam. Was about to take the test and was informed that if someone in the boat either has the cert, or is old enough not to need it, then even as the driver you are good. I've been stopped a few times since it passed, never been asked to show the cert.
It's an okay class, my kids will take it, but not much useful info for someone who has been a boater all their life.
