Stranded in the lake right now, my 2002 225 mercury efi wont crank. Starter will spin when I turn key but it's not kicking the bendix out to the fly wheel. Just 2 hours ago it crunk up fine at the landing. Trolling back there now just looking for suggestions.

Screwdriver under it and pop it up when you crank it.

Tap, not very hard, on the starter with a screwdriver or wrench and try again.

It'd help if I had a screwdriver. I've got a knife but that's it.

Try to pry the spindle up with your knife or whatever you have. Also try tapping around the starter with whatever you have that is hard. Use you boat seat pedestal if you have to.

The hammer trick works sometimes. It is getting really cold out there why dont you post your gps location and direction on here and let us know when you hit the dock.

Either starter or not enough juice. Use tm battery or jump it

Weak or under-amperage(dead cell) batteries will cause the bendix not to engage. As someone else said, if you can hook the trolling motor battery to the starting battery try that.

I'm 100 yards from the dock now, I hope it's just a dead battery. Trim and everything works fine, dosnt it run off same battery as the starter?

Only if you only have one battery, sounds like a starter or powerpack issue to me. Good luck

Well trim the motor up if you haven't already and get to the dock.
Keep the anchor ready in case the troll motor dies.

Dying/dead battery. This happened to me recently at the launch. Frsh battery helped the bendix move up and co tact the flywheel.

Well guys it was a dead battery thankfully. The nut that keeps all the wires on the positive post of the battery was loose and apparently the battery didn't get a good charge last night. I got the boat home, tightened the nut, and within 10 minutes of charging the starter engages and works perfect. Lesson learned: always check volt meter before leaving home, and always have a crescent wrench and screwdriver in the boat. probably gonna invest in a set of jumper cables specifically to be left in the boat.

Thanks again for yalls fast responses, I really appreciate it..

Instead of this get you a battery switch.

ETA: Glad it was something simple

Someone else mentioned a battery switch. This is a good option but the cables are cheaper and work just as good. Plus, if you ever come across a stranded boater who needs a "jump", you can't save their day with a battery switch!

You talked me into it. I'm gonna buy a set tomorrow evening when I go to academy. Was planning on goin and stocking up on baits already and I'll add some to my list.

Earlier I told my buddy that was with me that it was a good thing it happened within trolling motor distance of the landing or we would've been up shite creek. The trolling battery was getting real weak when we made it back to the launch. We went around 2 miles with it.
