I'm looking to buy a boat around 20 feet. I'd like a used boat that's been well-kept. Bow rider/runabout is the type I'm looking to buy. Activities would be cruising, tubing, skiing and wake boarding the rivers and lakes around here (Amite, Tickfaw and Maurepas. Can you help me out by giving me your opinion on boats to stay away from and boats you'd recommend. Not looking to spend more than $15,000.

You need at least 20' down here. How many people will you have on the water?

Not sure what they are going for these days but check into chaparrals. Had a 220ssi w/5.7 mercruiser some years ago and it was a really nice boat. That model is probably going to be out of your price range but they did make a 196ssi and 190.

I currently have a Chaparral 190 SSi. It's been a great boat for the past 4 years. I'll probably upsize down the road and when I do it'll be another Chaparral.

20 foot for 6 people is tight (unless two of them are small children)

I would look into Hurricane Deck boats for those activities. They have pontoon type seating configurations with a traditional hull and you get the benefit of having super reliable and easy to maintain yamaha 4 stroke outboards.

Get a party barge with twin 200s on it. I've seen people take those floating living rooms and power them up to fly at 40 mph.

Buddy of mine has a 25' PB with a 250 SHO on it and it runs 53 with 6 people. went skiing behind it last weekend.

I have seen them moving much faster than that.

A party barge would really make a good boat for down here. Many in use, look for something in the 24' range with enough power. It will work fine for tubing, ok for knee boarding...

you sound like a boating novice. PLEASE take a hands on class. There are far too many retards with boats around that area, no need to join their club.
