Boat Purchase thread (Bay Boat edition)

Been shopping around for a boat online. Ive not had a reason to get one since my dads is always available, but as a man i want my own boat. Not a need, simply a desire to have my own.
There are so many options out there im starting to go cross eyed. So is am looking to the OB for opinions, good and bad.
In general i am interested in something around 24 feet, could possibly dip down to 22.
Would use for inshore type fishing (Cocodrie). Would want something that can take a beating, but also get into shallow spots.
I recently went out on a 24ft Blazer Bay and really enjoyed it.
Like what I've seen from Sea Hunt online, but not familiar with them on the water.
See Triton and Skeeter everywhere, but havent fished them myself.
Everglades look very nice but never been on one.
Not worried about price range right now, but in general i dont plan on overly breaking the bank.
Also would like opinions on preowned vs. new and fiberglass vs. aluminum.

Have you looked at a Blackjack?
Just curious as I am semi in the market too and I know K2 makes good boats. They are the original owners of Kenner

Fiberglass if you planning on fishing the gulf with any regularity.
If you plan on staying inside 90% of the time then I would go aluminum all day long.

I have a 22' blazer bay and couldn't be happier. Not the fanciest boat on the market but well made and meant to take a beating all day long fishing.
I ended up picking up a used one, originally was looking at new and sea hunt and nautic star were my favorites. IMO nautic star was the better boat, but was also a decent amount more.

I just bought a 22 foot skeeter. I draft 11 inches and can get into really skinny stuff but I can also go offshore and catch snapper.

Another nice boat is the new 26' Pathfinder if looking new and not on a budget...
IMO I would NOT buy new, find a 2-3 year old boat with warranties and buy it. Identify what you want, and ride some, talk to boat owners. Maybe sit at a launch at a marina and talk to people as the pick up their boats do they like them. can you offer a few beers to test ride one?

My best buddy has a 24' pathfinder that we fish in Galveston Bay often. Damn fine boat that rides well and takes a pretty good beating. They have some nice features that come in handy while fishing. He took it 35 miles out a few years ago on a calm day.

If you want more informative suggestions, name a price range.
We fish a 2010 Blue Wave Pure Bay 2200 w/ a Yamaha 250...it's been a great boat and handles chop well. The 2011+ Pure Bay's are even nicer.
Also saw a new line called "Sportsman" at my dad's buddy's dealership - worth taking a look at. They seem like top of the line boats.

A friend of mine recently acquired (his sugar-mama bought it for him*) a new 24Ft SeaHunt bay boat. It had a a Yammy 300, hard t-top with built in lighting and sound, remote controlled trolling motor, Foruno Radar, GPS, fishfinder, powerpoles, live-well, bait-well, rod-lockers, etc. etc. We crossed Lake Borgne and fished the Biloxi Marsh. Nice ride, shallow draft, fast stable and comfortable; and we caught three limits of reds. It was truly an awesome boat, but she paid high 80s fully equipped.

24x7 center console. Absolute fishing machine. I had a 21x7 and fished dularge/ cocodrie and the islands and platforms during the summer and i could still turn around and go skinny for reds. Boat will last a lifetime and can take a beating. Easy to clean. Loved that boat.
I'll second the blackjack 224 being a great boat of you want fiberglass. Only negative of a blackjack is it isn't the best at getting skinny.

What would y'all recommend in the 10-15k range? Is that enough to get a decent used boat? I mostly want it for speckled trout - islands, platforms, but also want shallow water capabilities for chasing reds.
Absolute must haves:
Bait well (preferably one in the front)
Trolling motor
Would likes
4 stroke engine (150 Yamaha/honda) - is the 2 and 4 stroke very different in terms of fuel efficiency?
All composite construction (friend had to replace his floor in a century and that scared me a bit on boats that have wood in them)
Don't wants

4stroke alone is gonna really stretch the 15k budget. Yes they get better fuel economy and are quieter, but you will pay for it in the short term. You can run regular pump gas, and no oil to mix, but repairs are a LOT more expensive. Older boats had wood in them a lot of times, where the newer ones are going with more composite construction.
Add in the fact of having one large enough to get you out to rigs only makes the price climb. It's doable, but you may have to shop around for awhile.

I dont know if that boat exist.
Look for a 22' Triton Seaflight with a 200 yamaha OX66 model engine. I dont think it has a livelwell in the front.

Take a look at the hydra sport bay bolt. Awesome hull and boat. Can take a beating but also has the versatility to get skinny.

I bought with an open checkbook- but I'm no idiot, either. For the money, the Blazer was the best value.
I ran it 60 miles this weekend to fish, then had my family out at the beach for some picnicking- it'll float in a little over a foot, and run in a foot and a half.
When I washed it yesterday, I thought- "I'd buy this same boat again". And I'm seriously thinking about stepping up to a small Contender (we run 20 miles out to the Biloxi marsh from MS for specks) But I really still like my Blazer.
