How long will they stay fresh prior to a boil and what's the best storage method?
TIA

Ice is fine, but the plug needs to be pulled, no water and the ice chest needs the lid cracked so they can breath

Crack lid for air, pull plug to keep them out of the water and they will stay alive and fresh for days

I figured cracked chest with plug pulled, same as crawfish, but I've never tried storing them 24 or more hours.

Purge them first then put on ice incase they die they are already purged

Don't eat dead crabs, the meat goes bad fast, regardless of ice or not

It'll be about 30-35 hours tops.

I find that I have extremely bad luck keeping blue crabs, especially ones I catch at grand isle for whatever reason. I've had them die same day.

I always spread the crabs evenly on the bottom of the ice chest then put a towel over them then put the ice and pull the plug had them stay alive for 2 days just because they are not moving does not mean they are dead .... Rinse and make sure they start moving again before boiling

I have kept them alive for 3 days with this method. Lost none.
