Running jugs in Manchac. Headed to get a scale. My guess is around 7 feet, 140 pounds.

Only on the OB can a person catch a 100+ pound fish on a jug just to have someone come in and marginalize it within a couple hours.

That's a stud, OP. I would have starred a thread too. Thanks for sharing.

Blind River Bar (RIP) had a gar tournament for 30 years and they cooked them fresh after being weighed. Fried and gar balls, it was pretty good

I asked because we normally don't keep large catfish because the taste is off. That gar must be a bitch to clean.

all tackle(rod and reel) world record is 279.... so 250 is way off that...

there have been a few over 320 lbs in gill nets over the years... I personally saw one that was 8' long and right at 300 in cameron parish in 1980.

I don't eat them that big. Probably preserve the head. I keep the 3-4 footers for meat.

I see a bunch of them while bowfishing. Any advice on cleaning them?

Tin snips and a hatchet

This is pretty much how I do it, but I use the tin snips to cut the skin/scales on either side to let the skin lay out flat while I fillet it.
