BFG KO2 vs Nitto Terra Grapplers XL

Current tires are getting near the end and looking to add some all terrains when the time comes. Anyone had experience with these two tires? Truck will mostly be on the pavement save for a few messy jobsites after a hard rain. Currently looking at 305/55/R20 or possibly 285/65/20 if I can fit them.

Ruled those out due to the weight (68lbs according to the website). I'm trying to keep the unsprung weight as low as possible. Nitto's are 49lbs and the BFG are around 60lbs.

were the load ranges the same ?

You can't compare the BFG's to the Nitto's. The BFG's will be much quieter and should last longer.
The Cooper STMaxx is a beast though. I would get those over the other ones.

The BFG is an E rated tire so the load range is similar to the Cooper. The Nittos have a D rating which is why they weigh a good bit less.

KO2s were load range E for my 20" f150 rims.
Toyo A/T can fit a 20" rim and is less than a load range E (forgot the exact load rating)
I went with 33" BFG rugged trails (275/65r20?) in standard load range. Got me to the deer lease today no issue. I go through the ship and scrap yards in 4x4 just fine. Don't even need the diff lock. They may not be aggressive enough for you but I didn't need anymore than that

i see the ST MAXX doesn't even come in the size you need.

Cooper does make a 305/55r20 in the ST Maxx, but it seems they are the heaviest of the bunch.
I really don't need a super aggressive tread since it won't see much off-road duty. The Rugged Terrain and Trail T/A aren't offered in the sizes I'm look for though. I want something to fill out the wheel well as much as possible.

Larger sizes than a 33" (even some 33s) will only a range E. If you need a tire that big then heavy tire is just part of the game. I understand your concern with weight (which is why I chose the load range I did) but a pound here or there (range D to E) isn't going to kill mpg.
ETA: if it was an option stay away from the Trail T/A

The Nitto Terra Grappler XL is not E rated and measures 33.23" x 12.44" which is what I'll probably end up with, but I'm partial to the looks of the BFG. Just looking for some input on road noise and mileage people are getting out of these tires before I pull the trigger.

The nitto's will be loud, however the 10 ply tire will not ride as smooth as an 8 ply. A 10 ply is significantly heavier than an 8 ply. Most of the tires in that size will be 10 ply like mentioned before.

I've never had nittos so I can't comment on them. I've been satisfied with BFG tires
I had KM2's on my green truck and while they were not that good off road, they had great road manners and lasted a long time.

Most AT's these days are not very aggressive. Most tire makers are aiming for a quieter tire and better mileage with rounded tread instead of the old AT's which were more knobby.

Look into the 275/65R20 size
They will all be E rated and heavy but they aren't as wide as the 305's so you'll get less rolling resistance

I have the BFG KO2 285/65r20 on my truck, got them a few months back and love them. The KO2's look a little more aggressive (on the sidewall) than the older model and I couldn't be happier.

Just got the new BFG all terrains are much more aggressive than the older model. Just as quiet.

I have the 285/65/20 on my F150. I have it leveled and they fit fine. I really like the terra grappler. It's a good tire that is a good balance for on/off road. They can sling the mud if you need them too.

Tiger eye, what do you drive? I'm wondering how they fill out the wheel well. Any pics from the side and front?

I have had terra grapplers (305 55 20 )on my truck for over a year. No issues, 99.999 road only use. Treads holding up great and I'm not sure why others are talking about road noise. I have no more than I had with stock "touring" tires.
