VaBama Man,
I wish I had some advice on repairing the slide. The question is not how much it would cost to Cerakote, dip it, paint it or bead blast it. To me the question is will either of those remove the etching and render the slide smooth w/o costing to much in the process. I don't know the answer......

As far as the Hi-Point carbine, I wouldn't feel bad about buying one, if the price is right. Actually, I've been on the look out for one for a couple years, but haven't found the right price, yet. I'm looking for one in 45 ACP. If given the choice between the 40 and 9mm, I'd get the 9mm. In addition,i'm also looking for a Kel-Tec 2000. Kel-Tecs and Hi-Points catch a lot flack on the OB, but they seem to be well-liked elsewhere. I've been very pleased w/ my two Kel-Tecs.

The Sub-2000 is an excellent gun from everything I've seen. It's setup is remarkably simple. You hardly ever see a used one for sale because people hold on to them.

I know I like my Hi-Point .380, it's been way better than their reputation. The only time I fired it outside of a range, I nailed a rattler inbetween the eyes from 20 ft or so. First shot too. The only time it jams is if I don't keep it clean.

I'm thinking about offering it, and a really nice poker set i have for the Ruger in trade. I want to save my cash to spend on taking the etching off. He can't sell that Ruger, but he would definitely get his money from those two items
