Dewalt Makita or Milwaukee?

I want to get an impact drill and was looking at the 20v dewalt but I want to make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck.

And while we're at it we might as well open up the Ford Chevy Dodge debate.
FWIW Ford is the obvious answer.

Wow. None of your choices are even the answer to either.

DeWalt, Makita, or Hitachi are about even overall, choose whichever offers the specific features you'd like at the best price. Porter Cable is not the quality it used to be and Milwaukee has gone to crap under AEG (they own Ryobi and other lower-tier brands of cordless tools). Rigid is another option but I'd put them behind Hitachi. Better brands like Hilti, Matebo, Fein, etc aren't worth the premium for average DIYer.

one of the best deals going is the makita impact/drill combo at the depot, but its 18v. they are tough, reliable and the batteries last forever

if you are looking for something for commercial use, look at bosch or panasonic (both are more expensive)

I've been extremely impressed with my Milwaukee cordless tools. My non-cordless power tools are mostly Dewalt, and have been happy with them. The Dewalt cordless tools didn't hold up at the job site or for stuff around the house.

I have a Rigid set that I've been very pleased with and they warrant their batteries.

We switched from Dewalt to Makita at work for all of our cordless impacts and drills. That 20V Dewalt is not really 20v its a marketing ploy. The Makitas are lighter and the battery seems to last longer.

I got the impact drill and impact driver combo Porter Cable 20V set back in June and it has been kickin arse for me around the house. I have also used the reciprocating saw and jig saw that use the same batteries and they're all excellent. Tough as nails, built like tanks and the batteries last a long time and charge very quickly (30 minutes for the 1.5ah battery).

I couldn't be more impressed. I'm about to purchase a hammer drill too and will probably end up with the circular within the next year.

I picked up the Makita combo a few weeks ago and have bee nvery impressed with it.

I chose it over the Dewalt and Milwakee that were the same price. After reading all fo the reviews and specs, it seemed that the Makita and Milwakee were superior to the Dewalt. I chose the Makita because both tools are lighter weight overall, and made in Japan vs China for the Milwakee.

I have Rigid as well. It's handled everything from normal home use, to drilling into concrete and angle iron. The lifetime warranty on the tool, batteries, and charges is priceless to me.

This.

That being said, I am probably going to buy a new Dewalt set. It may very well be the 20v.

I have the rigid lithium ion drill, impact, and reciprocating saw. They are great tools and the lifetime warranties are great.

I've got a porter cable 18v that is okay. Bought a 20v Dewalt drill about a year ago, it has plenty of power, but the chuck slips like crazy when i try to get tough with it.

Think my next set will be Ridgid for battery replacement warranty.
