Budget $100, but prefer to spend less if i can. Would appreciate advice from the OB!

We bought several of the browning Strikeforce cameras before last hunting season and they worked great. Battery life was excellent and took good pictures.
We had the $100 range moultrie before and 4 of the 8 we bought have stopped working after about a year

Anything under 100 bucks is gonna have the same cheap chinese parts as the next one. They all frick up eventually. I've owned moultries, stealth cams, and wild games all in that price range, and the verdict from me is it's luck of the draw. I have bought multiples of the same model and one will be rock solid while the other eats batteries or just plain wont take pics. I can't stress enough that brand and model don't make a lick of difference. They all suck, have shitty triggers, and will randomly crap out. If anyone tells you brand/model x works great, it's because they drew a good one out of the pile.
The best advice I can give you is buy from academy, as they generally don't give you too much hassle for returning one if it doesn't work. This is the key to getting one that works well. Customer service for all these lower end hunting gadgets companies is shite, don't expect them to care. Treat these things as disposable products and you won't be let down.

I bought 2 Wild Games from Academy for $100. They take pictures. That's all I need it to do.

Haha. Thanks for the info. Would you recommend just saving up another hundred or two and buying a more expensive one later? Or are the higher priced ones liable to crap out as well?

I cant speak for the higher priced ones as I've never taken the leap, but I didn't mean to talk you out of buying a cheaper one. The main point is dont stress over brand names, just get whats on sale from a place with a good return policy. Dont fall for the 25 extra feet of trigger range or whatever the 95 dollar model claims to do better than the 60 dollar one. All of them will take about the same quality pics of deer over a corn pile, just make sure the store has your back if you draw a dud.

Look at the moultrie trace line on ebay. You get the same camera with a grey case for about half the price.
