I need a new light so I want to see what the OB recommends.

Need it to use common (AA, AAA, C, D) batteries. I do not want rechargeble.

Brighter is better but good battery life is a must. (LED)

small enough to fit in a pocket or belt holster.

Would like to keep it i nthe $25-$30 price range.

Any recommendations?

I have to agree on the Led Lenser. I have three of them, T7, H7 and the V2. Awesome lights! Really like the H7!

I was looking at that one before i made this thread. Only thing I dislike on it is it only has a 1 hour run time on bright. (2 hrs on mid)

I hardly ever use mine on bright. Only time is when I'm scanning the hi-line ahead looking for pigs. Walked into a field of bedding pigs and it wasn't fun. Went and bought the H7 the next day. That way I can hold my gun easier when I'm shooting.

Harbor freight has these for free (with a coupon) sometimes, with batteries (takes 3 AAA) - and they're never more than $3 or $4 - I have about 10 of them stashed around my house. They're durable, have good battery life (I've used them for years and never had to replace any batteries) and have a pale blue light. Not overly bright, but you can afford to stock up on them.

They sell the red and blue in 2-packs for as little as $3, as well.

ETA: The little lanyard rings suck, though. If that's an issues, I would repurpos a small keyring or just string paracord directly through the hole in the tailcap.

You could literally get 30 of them for $30 right now.

Mini-mag is what I have been using. The last two I have had have had issues with the light flickering off. I think its a bad connection at the tail end where it contacts the battery. I messed with it some and it got better, but still didnt completely fix the issue.

I have been looking at the Maglite XL line. I have never tried any of those before. The XL-50 has caught my eye as it is rated at 139 Lumes with a 6.5hr run time on high using tripple A batteries

I have several of the Maglite XL and they are very good lights.

The downside is the are relatively smooth.
I have the XL 50,100 and 200 and I like them all.

I also got this holster for them.

Did I mention Maglites are made in the USA?

any recommendation on 1 vs the other two? Like I said above, I'm liking the 50 due to run time.
